Psychology of human learning distinguishes implicit learning, the incidental acquisition of a new skill resulting in knowledge that is unconscious, and explicit learning, a more effortful and intentional form of learning leading to conscious knowledge. Does this distinction hold for other species? How can we probe implicit and explicit learning without relying on verbal reports? What are the relationships between consciousness and learning outside the human mind? Our research addresses these questions by testing humans and different non-human primate species in touchscreen experiments. The internship will involve testing great apes and/or monkeys in zoos, possibly in the UK (Edinburgh zoo), and targets students interested in comparative psychology. The internship will be co-supervised by Dr. Raphaëlle Mallassis, (ERC Marie-Curie Fellow).
