Psychology of human learning distinguishes implicit learning, the incidental acquisition of a new skill resulting in knowledge that is unconscious, and explicit learning, a more effortful and intentional form of learning leading to conscious knowledge. Our research assesses whether these two routes to learning also exist in apes and monkeys, and how and when they appear during childhood. The internship will involve testing children in video-game-like experiments designed to probe implicit and explicit learning without relying on verbal responses.
